What to Do if Your Pit Bull Will Not Stop Crying

Dogs don’t cry. At least not in the same context as human crying. They don’t often shed tears when they are sad or in pain. They also don’t wail and sob as we do.

Canine cries are actually whines and whimpers. But we can’t be sure if your dog’s cries all have the same meanings. We have no means to translate what they are barking or whining so we can’t know for sure.

But what should you do if your pit bull will not stop crying? Should you be alarmed? What could your dog possibly mean with their endless whining?

Why Pit Bull Will Not Stop Crying

It can be pretty alarming to hear your beloved dog whine nonstop. It’s also frustrating since you’re unsure what they meant by their cries. But if your pit bull won’t stop crying, they probably haven’t acquired what they need.

It could be because they are in pain and need you to help them. Or they might be hungry and in need of food.

To help stop your dog from crying altogether, you have to know the root of the problem.

Why Dogs Whine

Below are some of the most possible reasons why dogs whine. These don’t just apply to pit bulls but to every breed.

Pain

Pain is the most common cause why your pit bull won’t stop crying.

This is often accompanied by obvious discomfort. For example, they can’t walk straight or raise a paw or a leg while whining. Their whine could indicate that something happened and they were in pain.

They may also start crying while doing something physical. Your dog might be trying to go up or down the stairs or couch. Then, they suddenly started crying out of the blue.

Check for any signs of injuries if they show any distress or whine incessantly. If all their needs are met and there’s no reason to be anxious, bring them to a vet. They can check for any injury or ailment you might not see.

Stress or Fear

Another common and possible reason behind your dog’s whining is stress or fear. It’s their way of saying they are anxious or frightened of someone or something. Your pit bull may not stop crying if they’re put in such a position and you’re not aware.

For example, you rescued a pit bull from the pound. They might whine when they get home because they’re feeling distressed. This could be because of traumatic experiences from its previous home.

Pit bulls may also fear a visit to the vet. If they know you’re going there, they’ll likely whine all throughout the ride.

Or perhaps your dog is not a fan of the vacuum. Your dog may also show signs of distress when there’s a new guest or someone is missing. In fact, this can happen before you’re about to leave.

This is known as separation anxiety.

Normally, their cries are accompanied by trembling, pacing, and panting.

In these cases, training will be fruitful. You can train them by associating your home with good things. Positive reinforcement will help.

For extreme cases of separation anxiety, visit a certified animal behaviorist.

Need

Whining is your dog’s way of telling you they need something. Your pit bull might be hungry, thirsty, or in need of a bathroom break. But it is quite hard to actually decipher what their cries mean.

That’s why you should always have a routine at home, such as follow a feeding plan suggested by their vet. Your dog will get used to this schedule. So, you have to follow it closely to avoid incessant crying.

Additionally, never free-feed your dog. Don’t let them get used to getting food straight off your table. If you do, they won’t stop whining unless they get what they want.

The same goes for their bathroom breaks. Let them out at least every two hours to urinate.

Attention

Pit bulls are big and intimidating. In fact, many people fear and misunderstand them. But the truth is, these dogs are sweet and affectionate. They might be too affectionate that they’ll cry nonstop to get your attention.

Apart from that, your pit bull may easily get jealous of someone or something. If they aren’t involved in a phone call or conversation, they’ll seek your attention. The same goes if you’re spending more time with a new pet.

Remember that crying can also be fixed by training. Your dog may be naturally sweet, but you should still be in control. If your pit bull will not stop crying, leave the room. Teaching your dog basic commands like “No” and “Stop” can also help.

In addition, you should give all your pets the same amount of love and attention. No one should be ignored or left out. Of course, no one should be given more attention than others.

Worried why your pit bull will not stop crying? Don’t fret. Investigate and find the cause of the problem. As the owner, you should be the one to help your pet calm down.
